ANNIE MERLE
PAINTER, POET, ART CRITIC
Danièle Aubert Schmitt, born in Strasbourg,
lives and works in Toulouse.
First sole exhibition in 1976. Aubert Schmitt’s personal signature follows a mostly abstract representational path, playing with rhythms, biomorphic elements, a freedom of touch. In oil and gouache she expresses nuances and shades. In acrylic, the large, often monochromatic, surfaces recall her drawings. Aubert Schmitt also paints murals.

THE STATUS OF THE IMAGE
"Contemporary art is in crisis and, according to some denigrators, as harsh as they are simplistic, it has no future. No surprise that the collapse of the art market coincides with both the most radical and most regrettable demolitions."...
HOW TO DESCRIBE THE WORK’S PICTURAL D.A.S. ?
... "A difficult exercise, as for any text which tries to render the plastic arts in words!" ...
... "Tragedy in a representation freed from academic codes, dramaturgy of a constant questioning of the status of the image, which although dissolved, appears here and there within her main themes, rooted in reality on the edge of the imagination "...
... "During a workshop visit, I mentioned her direct or distant links with De Kooning and Joan Mitchell. Her daring is in this movement which abandons the certainties of realism to embrace the specific powers of painting. "
BEYOND THE IMAGE
"Is art criticism a further creative act, based on the long and patiently nurtured work itself?
This difficult exercise, which goes from ‘invectives to metaphysics’ as noted by Paul Valéry, is based on modesty, on the capacity to observe, on a necessary friendship with the artist, on a thoughtful and discreet encounter on a path of which the latter remains the only, slightly solitary, master."...

Oils and gouaches by Daniel Aubert Schmitt
Workshop "Terre d’Ocre" (Verfeil - Haute-Garonne - France)
Roger Etcheverry and Danièle Aubert Schmitt, who are the guests of the workshop " Terre d’Ocre ", in Bonrepos-Riquet have already shown some of their works in Toulouse.
Danièle formed in the workshop of almost homonymous sound Christian Schmidt whose intelligent and liberal education revealed many painters to themselves.
Through her gouaches and oils, she is very conscious of the essential problems of her art. She gives her best work in a still very plastic interpretation of the visible world, sometimes adjacent to non-figuration. It directs its architecture strongly shapes and rhythms in a vibrant and airy space where you feel the air circulating. Her vision often bathed in a dull light and somewhat mysterious created from simple color harmonies and supported. It is embodied in a material way without cumbersome and opaque, the artist to give a transparent and delicious density at the pictorial substance.
The approach of D.A.S. is the one of a bright and sensitive painter who knows how to discipline his language.
LE JEU DE L’OIE
APT - CHAPELLE DES RÉCOLLETS
True to his great works, the artist invests the chapel, with a game where the plastic flying geese will join “the noble game of goose.” The search for large areas to paint and to integrate the movement to bring Danièle Aubert Schmitt make murals.
Her research leads to a series of anamorphosis that emphasize the study of light projected either from the same point, either from different points, showing a picture that is both accurate and shifted in space.
She presented in 1999 the first International Biennial of watercolors at Kleinsassen Fulda, Germany.
